D’habitude de petite taille, elle devient ici une structure imposante, transformée en relique du passé, un artefact anachronique dans un monde gouverné par les technologies numériques. Son mécanisme, autrefois discret, est désormais visible et accessible, permettant au public d’interagir directement avec l’installation. En tournant la manivelle, les visiteurs ravivent un geste oublié, renouant avec la lenteur et la fragilité d’un temps révolu.
L’installation prend une dimension engagée en jouant L’Internationale, hymne de résistance et de lutte sociale. Ce choix musical confère à l’œuvre une portée symbolique forte : au-delà d’un simple hommage aux objets mécaniques d’antan, elle interroge notre rapport à la machine et au progrès. Ce projet est un acte de résistance artistique, un appel à ralentir, à redécouvrir la beauté des objets simples et à questionner notre relation au monde moderne. Entre mémoire et innovation, il invite à repenser la place de la matérialité dans notre quotidien et à réapprendre à écouter, toucher et ressentir autrement.
Michel Gondry est un réalisateur, scénariste et acteur français. Après des études de dessin, Michel Gondry se lance, dans les années 80, dans la réalisation de vidéos musicales, d’abord pour le compte de Oui Oui, son propre groupe dont il est le batteur, puis pour d’autres formations. Particulièrement prolifique, il s’impose au fil des années et s’exporte à l’étranger (Björk, The Rolling Stones). Il rencontre aussi un grand succès au cinéma avec des films comme Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind (2004) ou plus récemment Le Livre des solutions (2023).

The music box from Michel Gondry’s film Quelle Nuit Blanche! comes to life in the city—on a monumental scale. Usually a small, delicate object, it is reimagined as a towering relic from the past — an anachronistic artifact in a world dominated by digital technologies. Its once discreet mechanism is now visible and accessible, inviting the public to interact directly with the installation. By turning the crank handle, visitors revive a forgotten gesture, reconnecting with the slowness and fragility of a bygone era.
The experience becomes even more powerful as the box plays L’Internationale, a hymn of resistance and social struggle. This musical choice gives the artwork strong symbolic resonance: beyond a tribute to the mechanical objects of the past, it prompts reflection on our relationship with machines and progress. This project is an act of artistic resistance—a call to slow down, to rediscover the beauty of simple objects, and to question the pace and values of the modern world. Between memory and innovation, it invites us to rethink the role of materiality in our daily lives and to relearn how to listen, touch, and feel in new ways.
Michel Gondry is a French director, screenwriter, and actor.
After studying drawing, he began his career in the 1980s directing music videos—first for Oui Oui, his own band in which he played drums, then for other artists.
Exceptionally prolific, he gained international recognition over the years (Björk, The Rolling Stones).
He also achieved critical success with films such as Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004) and, more recently, The Book of Solutions (2023).
