L'heure du coucher du soleil parisien est marquée par une performance de la matière picturale et humaine dont la lumière est le révélateur dans The Mirror is You, où expérimentation artistique et improvisation théâtrale s’immiscent. Du cœur de cette grande installation et performance sur toile, irradient les miroirs brisés du destin humain personnel et collectif dont les Arènes de Montmartre forment l’écrin. La dramaturgie de la transformation de la matière s’y mêle au drame de la migration humaine dans le récit non-linéaire de la grande migration multiséculaire de la famille Arceneaux, de l'Acadie à la Californie en passant par la Louisiane. L'artiste américain Edgar Arceneaux, résidant californien et descendant de cette longue lignée créole, et l'ancien modèle et acteur américain Alex Barlas, transmettent la mémoire de l'expérience française aux Amériques, et plus largement, de l’essence de l’expérience américaine pour ouvrir une réflexion plus large sur les mouvements diasporiques contemporains.
Edgar Arceneaux, artiste américain né en 1972 à Los Angeles, où il réside, explore les liens entre des événements historiques et leurs répercussions dans l’actualité sociétale par le dessin, la sculpture, l’installation, la performance ou encore la vidéo. Directeur du Watts House Project de 1999 à 2012. Il a été nommé United States Artists Fellow en 2007 et a participé à la Whitney Biennal en 2008.

The hour of Parisian sunset is marked by a performance of
pictorial and human matter whose light is the revealer in The Mirror is You,
where artistic experimentation and theatrical improvisation interfere. From the
heart of this large installation and performance on canvas, radiate the broken
mirrors of personal and collective human destiny of which the Arènes de
Montmartre form the setting. The dramaturgy of the transformation of matter
mixes with the drama of human migration in the non-linear story of the great
centuries-old migration of the Arceneaux family, from Acadia to California via
Louisiana. The American artist Edgar Arceneaux, California resident and
descendant of this long Creole lineage, and the former American model and actor
Alex Barlas, transmit the memory of the French experience to the Americas, and
more broadly, of the essence of American experience to open up a broader
reflection on contemporary diasporic movements.
Edgar Arceneaux,
American artist born in 1972 in Los Angeles, where he lives, explores the links
between historical events and their repercussions in current society through
drawing, sculpture, installation, performance and even video. Director of the
Watts House Project from 1999 to 2012. He was named a United States Artists Fellow
in 2007 and participated in the Whitney Biennial in 2008.
