From October 25, the Fondation Cartier pour l'art contemporain will be moving from boulevard Raspail to the former Louvre des antiquaires in the center of Paris. An arrival not to be missed!

#1 To admire Jean Nouvel's architectural prowess

The first work of art to be admired in the new Fondation Cartier is… the one that houses it! The interior of the Haussmann-style building at 2, place du Palais-Royal (central Paris) has been transformed by architect Jean Nouvel. Forget the stuffy look of some museums: this is a place open to the outside world.
This former specialty mall, which housed up to 240 antique dealers, now boasts 150-metre-long bay windows and three large skylights to let in the light. More broadly, it's the contrast between the modernity of certain materials and the history of the walls that makes this place so special.

#2 To experience art differently

Inside the building, five mobile platforms, operated by a system of pulleys and cables, allow the exhibition surfaces to be modified. This creates verticalities of up to 11 meters in height, opening up a whole range of possible perspectives from which to admire the works!
In terms of cultural mediation, a brand-new space will open its doors in the Fondation Cartier in spring 2026: the Manufacture. This 300-square-meter space will be dedicated to manual skills and creativity, with a focus on transmission through gesture. Schoolchildren, adults and families will be able to learn about artistic practice.

#3 A journey through forty years of creation

To inaugurate this place where history and modernity meet, "Exposition générale" offers an abundant panorama of contemporary creation since 1984, the year the Fondation Cartier was founded. The itinerary, imagined by designers Formafantasma, is articulated with Jean Nouvel's architecture: here, no fixed wandering, but multiple points of view that invite a free visit.
The latter extends outside, into the heart of the new Fondation district: the Place du Palais-Royal and the Galerie de Valois (the underground passageway formerly linking the metro and department stores) host artistic interventions!
