When the days get shorter and the temperature slowly drops towards zero, it can be hard to motivate yourself to go outside and exercise. Luckily, we have the solution! We've found six completely free sports activities offered by Paris Sport Proximité that you can do indoors throughout the capital.
What is Paris Sport Proximité?
Paris Sport Proximité offers free sports classes throughout the year across the capital. These activities are supervised by sports instructors and associations, including the Centres Sport Découverte. They are open to everyone: children, teenagers, and adults. You badminton
Halle des Blancs Manteaux (Paris Center)
What if we told you that you could play badminton for free in an18th-century building located in the heart of the Marais district? It takes place on Mondays, from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m., in the superb Halle des Blancs-Manteaux (Paris Center), a former market that has been converted into a cultural center. An incredibly original place to hit a few shuttlecocks, don't you think?
Self-defense classes
Jean-Dame Gymnasium (Paris Center)
Master basic defense moves, adopt the right posture, and above all, gain confidence in a supportive, women-only environment. This is a great overview of the women's self-defense sessions offered to Parisian women every Saturday afternoon at the Jean-Dame gym (Center).
You basketball
Jacqueline-Auriol Sports Center (8th arrondissement)
In Paris, it's very easy to play basketball outdoors: the city has numerous playgrounds (some of which are beautifully decorated) where fans of the orange ball come to try their hand at a few three-pointers. However, when temperatures drop, dribbling can quickly become torture (injuries happen very easily). That's why the city offers free basketball sessions on Fridays between noon and 1:30 p.m. in a gym inthe 8th arrondissement. Who said you couldn't go dunking during your lunch break?
You futsal
Suzanne Lenglen Sports Center (15th arrondissement)
Are you a soccer fan but a bit sensitive to the cold? No problem, we have the solution: futsal. Invented in 1930 in Uruguay, this sport is played indoors, mostly in a gym. It's the perfect way to get your football fix, even in the middle of winter! Want to give it a go? You can try it almost anywhere in Paris, including every Thursday from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Suzanne-Lenglen Sports Center (15th arrondissement).
Table tennis
Emile-Anthoine Sports Center (15th arrondissement)
After a stressful meeting, a chat with your boss, or just a busy morning, there's nothing better than a game of ping-pong with your coworkers to unwind. In the summer, it's very pleasant to play on one of the city's many self-service tables (there's bound to be one near your office!), but when the cold weather sets in, the activity quickly becomes less fun. Fortunately, it's possible to play for free indoors almost anywhere in the capital! Today, we're honoring table tennis players in western Paris with a session on Thursday at noon in the15th arrondissement.
Muscle strengthening
TEP Eudy-Simelane (20th)
In the capital, it's entirely possible to build muscle without spending a penny. And no, we're not talking about those incredible places where you can do outdoor street workouts, but rather supervised sessions in a gym. For residents of eastern Paris, sessions are held on Fridays from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and on Saturday and Sunday mornings from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Don't miss out!
