La nouvelle création chorégraphique, et première parisienne de Soraya Thomas, est un défilé punk rock déconstruit, à l’image du podium, élément central du défilé de mode, éclaté en modules épars qu’arpentent des figures masculines dans tous leurs états. Car c’est une déconstruction de l’image hégémonique de l’homme occidental que propose ici l’artiste, comme le suggère le titre équivoque d’une pièce composée uniquement de quatre figures masculines, Les Jupes. Ce décentrement, ou retournement, du regard féminin minoritaire sur le corps masculin dominant nourrit l’intérêt de Soraya Thomas pour les processus de construction des canons et symboles liés à la masculinité, au corps et à l’autorité soumis au rythme de la marche militaire et autres mouvements processionnels.
Formée au Conservatoire d’Annecy puis à Coline, Soraya Thomas arrive à La Réunion en 2002, elle interprète les pièces d’Éric Languet. En 2011, elle fonde Morphose, entame ses recherches sur la porosité des antagonismes. Une danse parfaitement imparfaite pour mieux raconter nos mondes. Soraya Thomas explore La Joie et l’Insoumission avec Les Jupes.

The new choreographic creation, and the first in Paris by Soraya
Thomas, is a deconstructed punk rock parade, like the catwalk, the central
element of the fashion show, broken up into scattered modules paced by male
figures in all their states.
Because it is a deconstruction of the hegemonic image of the
Western man that the artist is proposing here, as suggested by the equivocal
title of a piece composed only of four male figures, Les Jupes. This
decentring, or reversal, of the minority female gaze on the dominant male body
nourishes Soraya Thomas's interest in the processes of construction of canons
and symbols linked to masculinity, the body and authority subject to the rhythm
of military march and other processional movements.
Trained at the Annecy Conservatory then at Coline, Soraya Thomas
arrived in Reunion in 2002, she performed the pieces of Eric Languet. In 2011, she founded Morphose, beginning her research on the
porosity of antagonisms. A perfectly imperfect dance to better tell our worlds.
