Who said nothing in Paris was free? Certainly not us! The city is packed with great museums allowing you to open your eyes to other cultures, discover new forms of expression or simply get away from it all. Here are our tips and advice on how to find free exhibitions in the capital.
Free all year round
Five museums are open to everyone, year-round, with no admission fees.. You can wander endlessly around the Atelier Brancusi - Centre Georges Pompidou, Musée Curie, Le Plateau - Centre d'art contemporain, Musée de la Préfecture de police and the Mémorial de la Shoah.

Free access to permanent exhibitions
Only the Maison de Victor Hugo - Hauteville House is always free.
Admission is free to the Musée Cognacq-Jay, le goût du XVIIIe, except during temporary exhibitions. The same applies to the Musée de la Libération de Paris - musée du Général Leclerc - musée Jean Moulin, Musée de la Vie romantique, Musée Carnavalet, Histoire de Paris and Musée Cernuschi, Musée des Arts de l'Asie de la Ville de Paris

The same is true of the permanent collections at the Musée Bourdelle, the Musée d'Art Moderne de Paris, the Maison de Balzac, the Musée Zadkine and the Petit Palais, musée des Beaux-arts de la Ville de Paris.
Free on the 1st Sunday of the month
Visits to the Musée de la Chasse et de la Nature, the Musée Gustave Moreau and the Musée Jean-Jacques Henner are free every first Sunday of the month. Remember to book online to make sure you get in.
At the Musée National d'Art Moderne - Centre Pompidou, admission to the permanent collection and the Galerie des Enfants is free.
At the Musée des Arts et Métiers, it's free every Friday from 6pm to 9pm.
The Musée Eugène Delacroix is also open to the public on July 14.

The list goes on for museums that are open free of charge on the first Sunday of every month if you're under 18. These include the Musée Cluny, the Musée de l'Orangerie, the Musée d'Orsay, the Musée Picasso, the Cité de l'Architecture et du Patrimoine, the Musée National de l'Histoire de l'Immigration, the Musée Guimet and even the Musée du Quai Branly.

The Louvre offers free admission on the first Friday of the month from 6pm (except July and August) and on July 14th.
