To ensure a fun yet responsible celebration, it’s always a good idea to follow a few rules of conduct and courtesy! This will allow everyone to enjoy the moment… and make the job easier for the staff who are keeping an eye on public spaces.
I pay close attention to what is happening around me
This summer, and especially during the festival, I’ll be looking out for my friends! It’s important not to leave anyone alone and to help keep everyone safe. Here are some useful contacts:
- Are you a victim of or a witness to dangerous behavior, gender-based or sexual violence, or an assault? Call 17 or 114.
- Please feel free to speak directly to the police officers and first responders present at festive gatherings
- Are you a woman who has experienced domestic violence? Call 3919, a toll-free number available 24 hours a day.
Because violence does not occur only during festive occasions, the City of Paris remains fully committed to combating violence against women. Throughout the year, it offers various resources to support victims (such as the "violence meter") and works with organizations to combat this violence.
If you’d like to keep the party going at nightlife venues, many Parisian spots (bars, clubs, concert halls) have been trained by the organizations Consentis and Act Right in the prevention of sexual and gender-based violence. Each venue has signed the Fêtez Clairs charter, which promotes a party culture that supports the health and well-being of everyone. Find them on this map of venues committed to a safe night out.
I sort and dispose of all my trash and cigarette butts in one of the 30,000 trash cans provided
Properly disposed-of waste is waste that ends up in one of the 30,000 trash cans located in Paris’s public spaces, or in one of the 42 recycling stations set up in the busiest areas for the summer season. During festive events and this summer, cleaning efforts are being stepped up to accommodate the increased number of people in public spaces.
Paris’s sanitation crews are on duty from 5:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., seven days a week, and during the summer season, dedicated teams work until 11:30 p.m. in the busiest areas… where the number of recycling stations has also been increased. As a result, 24 large recycling hubs—each with up to five collection bins—and 18 mini-hubs with two bins complement nearly 80 additional temporary bins deployed at the busiest locations.
Cigarette butts are one of the most common types of litter found in public spaces. Every day, Paris sanitation workers collect nearlya ton of cigarette butts. To keep our living environment clean, please use the built-in ashtrays in the trash cans located in areas where smoking is permitted.
Since the summer of 2025, the ban on smoking in public places has been extended to many locations, including bus stops, parks and gardens, areas surrounding schools, and sports facilities. As a reminder, discarding a cigarette butt on a public street is punishable by a fine of €135.
Thanks to the 1,300 water fountains throughout Paris, I stay hydrated
Remember to bring your water bottle—it’s even better for the planet! Then all you have to do is choose: still water or sparkling water? With or without misting? Use this map to find all the water fountains available in public spaces. During the day, you can also fill your water bottle for free at any of the 1,500 establishments displaying the “Ici je choisis l’Eau de Paris” sticker .
If I drink alcohol, I do so in moderation, at my own pace, and I avoid doing so on an empty stomach
When drinking alcohol, it’s also important to stay well-hydrated by drinking enough water. The rule of “one drink, one glass of water” is still a good guideline to follow… though you shouldn’t skimp on hydration when it’s hot. And if you want to party without drinking alcohol, follow Maxime Musqua’s advice!
Alcohol consumption: key facts to know
In 2017, Santé publique France established the following guidelines to limit the risks associated with alcohol, without eliminating them entirely:
- Pregnant women: no alcohol. Risks to the fetus exist starting with the first drink.
- Adults: a maximum of two drinks per day and ten per week, with at least two alcohol-free days.
- Gender differences: Studies tend to show that, for people of the same body weight, women’s bodies are more sensitive to the effects of alcohol.

Need to use the restroom? 600 restrooms are available 24 hours a day throughout Paris
If you choose to urinate in public, you could face a fine of 135 euros, under a decree issued in 2020.
To ensure a friendly, pleasant, and respectful atmosphere for everyone
Throughout the summer evenings, mediators from the City of Paris step in to help manage nightlife and foster a sense of community, particularly with local residents. And every partygoer has a role to play as well.
Now all that's left is for you to enjoy the festivities. Have a great summer in Paris!
