Museums and theatres

The choice is famously vast. Théâtre du Châtelet and the national theatres are a few of the best-known ones, but don’t miss the smaller gems – or the choice of plays to elate a more junior audience. And the museums ? The Louvre, Musée d’Orsay, Centre Pompidou and Musée des Arts Premiers are a few of the obvious choices, but don’t miss Victor Hugo’s house, Musée Balzac, the Musée d’Art Moderne, the famous Catacombes, or the 10 other City of Paris museums.

The entrance to all permanent collections of the municipal museums is free for the public. Only temporary exhibitions, archeologic crypt and Catacombes are charged.

Theaters

Any style, any size. Châtelet, the Théâtre de la Ville and the Maison de la Poésie are only three examples.

Museums

The Louvre’s thousand halls, 19th-century and Impressionist treasures in the Musée d’Orsay, and the modern-art mecca in the Centre Pompidou are perhaps the three best-known national attractions. But there are countless other enthralling well-kept secrets here (a military museum, a popular traditions and crafts museum, a museum about Montmartre, and more). And of course the 14 City of Paris museums (including Victor Hugo’s house, Musée Balzac, the Musée d’Art Moderne, and the famous Catacombes).
