The La Villette Canal Basin is celebrating its 200th anniversary

A variety of cultural, sports and festive events are being organised in honour of the largest stretch of smooth water in Paris, located in the North of the capital. Discover the events being put on in May, June and July in celebration of this anniversary. A cruise will take you through the story of “La Villette: Past and present”.

The La Villette Canal Basin (“Bassin de la Villette”) is celebrating its bicentenary from May until July. At 700 meters in length, it is the largest stretch of smooth water in Paris. For the past ten years or so, it has been a prime leisure location, with cinemas, restaurants, cafés, special event barges, yachts, etc.

A historic exhibition: “200 years of the La Villette Canal Basin”

Discover how the canal basin has changed over the years: originally decorative and designed for the enjoyment of Parisians out for a stroll, it became a trade port from 1820-1950, surrounded by warehouses.. Today, the canal is once again a place of leisure where you can relax and take in some culture, with cinemas and barges for special events.
