Migration and co-development

Co-development involves working with migrant workers to help their regions of origin. The City of Paris provides easier access to funding for migrant associations based in the city.

Co-development, the lever of international solidarity
The City of Paris supports co-development initiatives. It works with immigrant populations to provide aid for their regions of origin.

Several hundred migrant groups and associations based in Paris provide their countries of origin with regular aid. This special relationship between the capital and developing countries is an integral part of its identity. City Hall provides these associations with institutional and financial aid.

The Co-development conference

In April 2003, City Hall organised a conference on co-development which brought together 350 participants to make this political ambition a reality. It is the outcome of two years of work during which international solidarity associations (with members of foreign or French origin) were consulted and included. The objective was to draw up a relevant approach in terms of co-development in conjunction with all the systems which were already working with migrant associations, in particular the Conseil de la citoyennet et des Parisiens non communautaires (C.C.P.N.C), the citizenship council for Parisians of non-EU origin.

A request for proposals was launched with this in mind. Its aim was to support quality projects with long-term impact on the development of the country of origin and acting as a driving force for the integration of immigrant populations. City Hall favours projects drawn up in conjunction with institutions and associations which act in the same zones.
Immigration is not only an asset for the development of the country of origin but is also a tool for socially aware solidarity.
