MAJOR URBAN PROJECTS
The latest on the work at Les Halles Although the renovation work at Les Halles is not due to be completed until 2016, the largest worksite in Paris will change a great deal during 2012. In April, a playground for 7 – 12 year olds will open to provide enjoyment for residents. It should also be noted that the destruction of the Willerval pavilions, which began last summer, will be completed.
On a lighter note, the “Doisneau, Paris Les Halles” exhibition will begin at the Hôtel de Ville on 8 February. It will provide an opportunity to discover 150 photos, entirely dedicated to Les Halles, taken by the famous photographer between the 1930s and the 1970s.

PUBLIC SPACES
Start of construction work on the Place de la République It is one of the most symbolic Squares in the city. The Place de la République will begin its transformation in January. Although the work is due to finish in spring 2013, the whole year will be punctuated by work which, depending on the period, will block the various roads leading to the square. This popular, pleasant area will eventually be entirely pedestrianised. The disappearance of the roundabout around the statue will allow the creation of a pedestrianised area reserved for non-motorised forms of transport (bikes, pedestrians, etc.).

A garden underneath the périphérique ring road at Porte de Vanves The covered parts of the Boulevard périphérique extend from the Porte Brancion to approximately 40 metres to the east of Avenue de la Porte-de-Vanves, along 410 metres, with 260 metres of cover created. During summer 2012, a public garden of approximately 7,000 m² will be inaugurated in this new space. An area for relaxation, meetings and leisure, it will form a link between communes (several entrances, pedestrian alleyways, links with existing green spaces, etc.).
TRANSPORT Full deployment of Autolib’ during 2012
When Autolib’, the first public rental service for 100% electric cars, was launched, 250 stations and 250 cars were available in the 46 communes. Since then, new vehicles are being added to the fleet every month and new stations are being built. The deployment of the service is due to be completed during the year and 3,000 cars will then be available in approximately 1,200 stations.

Following several experiments carried out during 2011, 2012 will see the main furniture installed from January onwards.
So don’t miss it, January will see the start of the Triporteur Cookista (Cookista delivery tricycle) in the BNF (French National Library) area (13th).
