Exhibition: haute couture showcased at the Hôtel de Ville
The Paris Hôtel de Ville is celebrating haute couture with this exhibition. "Paris haute couture" gives visitors an opportunity to admire some exceptional examples of haute couture dresses or outfits, chosen from among the most beautiful pieces in the Galliera museum collections. From 2nd March to 6th July 2013. Free.
Haute couture was born in Paris in the mid-19th century, and the city is still the capital of this special art. By showcasing masterpieces from the Galliera museum, the Hôtel de Ville is paying tribute to this little-known world, one of the jewels in the crown of French culture, and to a Parisian industry characterised by creativity and high-tech expertise.
Dior, Cardin, Yves Saint Laurent, Rochas...
Included on the programme: Worth, Doucet, Poiret, Lanvin, Vionnet, Patou, Chanel, Molyneux, Rochas, Maggy Rouff, Jacques Heim, Nina Ricci, Schiaparelli, Jacques Fath, Balenciaga, Grès, Balmain, Carven, Christian Dior, Givenchy, Cardin, Yves Saint Laurent, Courrèges, Jean Paul Gaultier, Lacroix, Alaïa… The exhibition tells the story of the luxury industry with its flamboyant designers and uniquely talented seamstresses.
What is there to see? The "Paris haute couture" exhibition boasts around a hundred haute couture branded models on display in the Salle Saint-Jean of the Paris Hôtel de Ville. Drawings and photographs will add the finishing touch to the exhibition. The exhibition has been created with the support of Swarovski.
